The Valley, 30 July 2007

Master percussionist and leading Jamaican Nyahbinghi drummer Bongo Herman Davis is currently in Anguilla as the lead tutor in the Drums Not Guns summer vacation workshops being run by the Anguilla Stingray Music Programme.

Bongo Herman is an internationally known artiste who has been providing rhythms for hit-making reggae musicians for over four decades. The workshops are taking place at Triple Crown Culture Yard in The Valley and have attracted children and young people in a 5 -17 year age range. One outcome of the workshops will be a performance by the Stingray Drummers at the Emancipation Day concert at Grillers restaurant in Stoney Ground on Wednesday 1st August 2007. Bongo Herman will also make a guest appearance on the concert with local reggae band Roots Rebels.

Organisers of the Stingray summer workshops take this opportunity to thank the Government of Anguilla, the organisers of the Jimmy Buffet benefit concert, the Anguilla Community Foundation, Shoal Bay Villas and Ku at Shoal Bay East as well as the Dune Preserve at Rendezvous Bay, Irie Nails and Ashley and Sons for their sponsorship. Coordination services in Jamaica were provided by Colin Leslie, Chairman of the Jamaican firm, Imani Music and Advisor to the Anguilla Stingray Music Programme.
